ChartsAgnes (Carter) Richards' Pedigree Chart
Robert Cross was born in 1613 in England.2

Robert Cross had a grant of six acres, adjoining the land of his fahter-in-law Stephen Jordan, in 1635 and by 1638 he had built a house on it. In the spring of 1637 he was one of the young men of Ipswich, seventeen in number, who saw service as soldierts in the Pequot War. On March 19, 1949/50, Robert moved his famiy to a farm of forty acres, in the southern part of Ipswich called Chebacco, which he had bought from John Burnham. the date is fixed by the testimony of his sons Robert and Stephen in a suit for trespass which he brought against four neighbors in 1663. Bounds were uncertain, particularly in the marshes, and he was involved in several boundary disputes.3

Robert Cross married Anna Jordan on 20 August 1635 in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts.2 On 4 August 1636 their daughter, Elizabeth Cross, was born in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts.4 On 14 June 1640 their daughter, Mary Cross, was born in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts.4 In 1642 their son, Robert Cross, was born.1,4 On 15 March 1643 their daughter, Martha Cross, was born.4 Their sixth child, Stephen, was born circa 1647 in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts.5

He and his family were constantly in legal difficulties. He was "admonished for words" and Joseph Fowler was in court for "wicked and sinful speeches" against him in 1649. He was sued by John Fuller in 1642 and sued Cornelius Waldo in 1651, in the civil side. In 1964, Robert's daughter, Martha, who was a servant of Thomas Bishop, got into trouble with William Durkee.Cross sued Durkee for abusing his daughter. Durkee replied by suing Cross for withdrawing his consent to the marraige after giving it. Soon afterward, however, William an Martha were duly married.3 Their eighth child, Anna, was born in 1651 in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts.4 Their ninth child, Peter, was born in 1652/53 in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts.1,6 Their eleventh child, Sarah, was born in 1655/56 in Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts.
