In the 1900 Census, Evaline is listed as only having two children, with one living. I have six children for this household. I don't know if that if a mistake or if these children were someone else, that they took in. The 1880 census list four children as Doswell and in 1870, the other two children are shown as members in their household.7

Doswell Holt was born on 12 August 1842 in Indiana.4,8,2,9,10 He was the son of James Holt and Jane Crusanberry.4,3,5,6 In the census of 20 September 1850 in Brown Township, Martin County, Indiana, Doswell appears in the household of James Holt as Doswell Heath. He is six years old and was born in Indiana.11 Doswell moved to Owensburg, Greene County. He previously lived in Burns City, Martin County, Indiana.10 In the census of 14 July 1860 in McCameron Township, Martin County, Indiana, Doswell appears in the household of Calvin Holt as Doswell Holt. He is 17 years old and was born in Indiana. He is working as a farm laborer.12

Doswell Holt married Evaline Flinn, daughter of Josiah Flinn, on 9 October 1860 in Greene County, Indiana.13,14,15,8 In the census of 30 August 1870 in Jackson Township, Greene County, Indiana, Doswell Holt, shown as Doswell Holt, is listed as the head of household which included the following household members; Evaline Flinn, Sarah J. Holt, Malissa Holt, Mary C. Holt and James W. Holt. He is 28 years old, a laborer, and was born in Indiana.16 Doswell Holt was listed in the will of James Holt on 29 August 1870 at Martin County, Indiana; According to his will, he left his wife $500 and some land, to his son, Doswell, $5, and to his son Drury, a mare. In the event that his wife remarries or dies, her land is to be divided among the following heirs; his children, Drury, Jesse, Chrispin, Isaac, Thomas, Catherine, Susanna, Caswell, William, Sarah E. Sinclair, and James and his grandson Granville Holt. James H. Holt is executor and John G. Edmonson, Alexander Girdley, and Noah Sims witness the will.17 In the census of 10 June 1880 at Owensburg, Greene County, Indiana, Doswell Holt, shown as Dawswill Holt, appears as a head of household. Living with him is his wife, Evaline Flinn, his daughters, Sarah J. Holt, Malissa Holt and Mary C. Holt. He is 36 years old, is a wagon maker, and was born in Indiana. His parents were born in Tennesee.18 In the census of 2 June 1900 in Shamswick Township, Lawrence County, Indiana, Doswell Holt, shown as Dawsin Holt, appears as a head of household, which include his wife, Evaline Flinn, his son, Edgar Claude Holt. He is 56 years old, occupation is shown as wood working, and was born in Indiana, August 1843. His father was born in Virginia and his mother in Kentucky. He has been married for 38 years.7
