William Gaff

M, b. after 1870, d. before 1910
FatherRev. A. E. Gaff
William Gaff was born after 1870. He was the son of Rev. A. E. Gaff.

William Gaff died before 1910 in Arkansas City, Cowley County, Kansas. He was murdered.1

OBITUARY: "Untimely Death: Great concern was manifested here last Friday when word was received by the relatives of Wm. Gaff that he he had been murdered on the night previous at Arkansas City, Kansas, where he had been employed as a night clerk in the St. Charles Hotel for the past year.
Mr. Gaff in company with three other men in the lobby of the hotel; S. A. Halpin, a member of the "Parsifal" company, who was also killed, L.S. McKeen, another member of the same compnay and Prof. Geo. P. Garvelon, of Wichita, all of whom were reading magazines. Between 12:10 and 12:15, the front door was roughly opened and two masked men entered. They both carried revolvers which were leveled at Gaff and Halpin, who happened to be nearest them, with the command "Throw 'em up." Before they were given time to obey, two shots were fired and both men fell to the floor, the other two making their escape from the rear. Halpin lived three hours, but Gaff died instantly, the ball entered the left eye and into the brain. The motive is not wholly clear, but it is supposed the men were of the opinion that the treasurer of the "Parsifal" company would be in the office and that he would have the funds of the company's performance with him.
Mr. Gaff is a former Hicksville boy and the son of Rev. Gaff, a Lutheran minister now located in Albion, Ind. He is a brother of Mrs. Frank Bricker, of this city and has a host of friends here who are grieved to learn of his untimely death.
Funeral services will be held from the residence of Frank Bricker Thursday afternnon at 3 o'clock and conducted by Rev. J. F. Miller and Grant W. Speer."1
