Rebecca1

F, b. 1808
Rebecca was born in 1808 in Connecticut.2

Rebecca married William Weston, son of Timothy Weston and Thankful Cadwell, circa 1830.1

In a letter to George from William and Rebecca Weston, William states, "I received $5 from you which I am thankful. Five dollars in money in this state is considered more than 15 used to be in the east. The amount of all my labour and John's since we have been here will not exceed $70 and of this not more than four dollars in money. I built a small office for a lawyer for which we receive 61 dollars in corn, flour, pork and potatoes.... Tea, coffee, sugar, molasses, we know but little about only in memory but enough of this...... If I had 100 dollars in money it would not take me long to decide I assure you. If it was the will of the great giver of all good I would return to good old New England and I will assure you that if it was to be so that I should never have so much as the first symptons of the Western fever again. But this is too much to think of. You wished me to write how many potaotes and beans I raised. I did not raise any potatoes. The pigs got in and rooted them all up. I raised about one bushel of beans.
You wished to know about J. Smith. He is a mean man if indeed he worthy to be called a man. He is one of (diabolea) most faithful subjects...There is 400 dollars premium offered for him in order to bring him to justice for his being the means of the shooting of Baggs the ex-Governor of Missouri. We cannot bring him or any of his crew to Justice for any of these iniquities without fighting unless their crime is against a Mormon...... May the Lord prosper you in all things. I must close and give room for Rebecca to write now as you receive this from your unworthy brother, Wm. C. Weston."
The letter continues from Rebecca, "Dear Sister Abba....As regards to our staying here I know not what will become of us. Our clothes and shoes are wearing out and no possible way of getting any more. I have worked at my trade some but cannot get money or stores to pay for it. If I work at all people want me to take it in wood or flour and then I have hard work to get it at all. So I might as well not work at all.... Rodolphus knows no more about maintaining a family than the man in the moon... I have had some notion of sending to my friends to see if they would not send me money enough to get us back to the East but shame has prevented me so far for they was against our coming. But I must draw to a close, write soon, from your affectionate sister, R.B. Weston.3

In a letter dated February 1843 from William and Rebecca Weston to George Weston, William writes, "Minerva has had no clothes since she has been here except a dress that one of the Sisters in the Church gave her and one that Eliza sent her. Rodolphus knows no more about maintaining a family than the man in the moon."1
A letter dated February 1843 written by an unknown person at Carthage, Hancock County, Illinois..
