Abigail Lewis was born on 3 September 1790 in New York.1,3 She was the daughter of Comfort Lewis.

Abigail Lewis married Zion Potter before 1835.4

Abigail Lewis married Daniel Driskill between 1844 and 1850.1,5

In 1848, Daniel and Abigail moved with their family to Michigan. In an article about Odediah Driskill, it indicates that his family moved to Michigan in 1848, but that he did not stay. Obadiah would have only been eight years old at that time, so if he returned to New York, it is assumed that his parents did also. It is unknown if any siblings or relatives stayed. In 1850 they were in New York and in 1860, Daniel and Abigail were living in Wisconsin and Obadiah was in Illinois, near Chicago.6 In the census of 15 August 1850 in Summer Hill, Cayuga County, New York, Abigail appears in the household of Daniel Driskill as Abigail Driskill. She is 57 years old and was born in New York. Also living in this household is Abigail A. Potter, age 15 and Sarah M. Potter, age 13.7 In the census of 26 July 1860 in Bloomfield, Waushara County, Wisconsin, Abigail appears in the household of Daniel Driskill as Abigil Driscal. She is 67 years old and was born in New York.8 In the census of 8 June 1870 in Riga Township, Lenawee County, Michigan, Abigail appears in the household of Gardner B. Mason as Abagail Driskill. She is 79 years old and was born in New York.9

Abigail Lewis died on 11 October 1875 in Riga, Lenawee County, Michigan, at age 85 of old age.10,11 She is buried in the Berkey Cemetery located in Lenawee County, Michigan.12

Obadiah would have only been eight years old at that time, so if he returned to New York, it is assumed that his parents did also. It is unknown if any siblings or relatives stayed. In 1850 they were in New York and in 1860, Daniel and Abigail were living in Wisconsin and Obadiah was in Illinois, near Chicago.6 In the census of 15 August 1850 in Summer Hill, Cayuga County, New York, Obediah appears in the household of Daniel Driskill as Obadiah Driskill. He is 13 years old and was born in New York.5

In the census of 18 July 1860 in Hanover, Cook County, Illinois, Obediah appears in the household of John Kintz as Obedian Driscoll. He is 22 years old, working as a farm laborer, and was born in New York. It is unknown why he is living with this family, but he is living next to his brother Joel Driskill and near John and Harriet Bowers.9 In 1861 in Chicago, Obadiah enlisted with "Barker's Dragoons" for three months.6 During the Civil War, Obediah Driskill signed up with the Company D, 8th Regiment of the Illinois Cavalry Volunteers on 9 September 1861 at Hanover, Cook County, Illinois. He mustered in as a private on 18 September 1861 at Bank Kane. He was wounded at the battle of Fair Oaks, and discharged from service, Aug. 2, 1862. However according to his pension records, there is no record of him being wound, but it does indicate that his unit was in action on that day at that locatio.10,11 In 1863, Obediah moved to Richland County, Wisconsin.6 During the Civil War, Obediah Driskill signed up with the Company A, 4th Regiment, Wisconsin Cavalry Volunteers on 18 January 1864. He is 28 years old and working as a farm laborer. His birth location is given as Connecticut. He is descripted as fair complexion, 5 foot 8, gray eyes, auburn hair, and that his occupation was that of a farmer.10

Obadiah Driskill is a member of the democratic party, also of the IOOF. IOOF stands for Independent Order of Odd Fellow. In the 17th century England, it was odd to find people organized for the purpose of giving aid to those in need and of pursuing projects for the benefit of all mankind. Those who belonged to such an organization were called "Odd Fellows". Odd Fellows are also known as "The Three Link Fraternity" which stands for Friendship, Love and Truth.
