     OBITUARY: William Higbee one of the pioneers of this town died on Tuesday of last week after a painful illness of several months duration. Mr. H came to this town from Cayuga, Co. N. Y., where was was born sixty-two years ago; he settled upon his present farm in 1843 and has ever since lived there with the exception of three years spent in the gold mines of California. He leaves a family of five groun up children and one adopted daughter who is now living with her foster mother in Rome, Jefferson Co., where Mr. Higbee has been quite well known for the past 89 years. He has ever borne a good reputation and was esteemed as a valuable citizen and an honest man; he has held several offices of trust and responsiblity, and we have yet to hear the first world of distrust or inability to perfomr any duty which fell to him. Before his death he expressed a desire to be buried int he Oak Hill Cemetery which was concurred with the remains were followed to their last resting place by a large number of friends and neighbors who deeply sympathize with the sorrowing family. He is one year old and was born in Wisconsin.⁴ In the census of 2 June 1870 in Sullivan, Jefferson County, Wisconsin, Eason appears in the household of William Higbie as Eason Higbie. He is 20 years old, working on a farm, and was born in Wisconsin.⁵

     Eason David Higbie married Lillian A. Hatch, daughter of Munroe Hatch and Azuba Osborn.⁶ In the census of 26 July 1880 in Atlanta, Becker County, Minnesota, he is listed as a brother of Albert Higbie. His name appears as Eason Higbie. He is 29 years old, single, and was born in Wisconsin. His parents are shown as being born in New York.⁷

     In the Wisonsin State Census, there is an Eason Higbee, age 50, living in Sullivan, Jefferson County, Wisconsin. He is shown as a widowed with six children living with him. All listed as his son or daughter. Myetle, age 16; Pearl, age 11; Godron, age 9; George, age 8; Royal, age 5; Nazel, age 4; and Benjamin, age 19.⁸

     Eason David Higbie died on 2 May 1934 at age 84.⁹

     Albert Higbie was born in 1852 in Wisconsin.¹ He was the son of William Higbie and Emma Driskill.¹ In the census of 26 July 1880 at Atlanta, Becker County, Minnesota, Albert Higbie, shown as Eason Higbie, appears as a head of household. Living with him is, his brother, Eason David Higbie. He is 29 years old, a farmer, and was born in Wisconsin. His parents were both born in New York. Also living in this household is his wife, Doree, age 20 and his son Eugene, age 2.²

     Lucy Driskill was also known as Lucena Wood.

She is 23 years old and was born in New York.⁶ Lucy Driskill witnessed the death of Daniel Driscal on 13 July 1862 in Sullivan, Jefferson County, Wisconsin.^7,8 In the census of 28 July 1870 in Stark, Vernon County, Wisconsin, Lucy appears in the household of John Wood as Lucy Wood. She is 38 years old, keeping house, and was born in New York. This household is living next to Thomas Libbery's household, which includes Daniel Driskell, age 75, Lucy's father.⁹ In the census of 15 June 1880 in Stark, Vernon County, Wisconsin, she is listed as the wife of John Wood.
