OBITUARY: William Higbee one of the pioneers of this town died on Tuesday of last week after a painful illness of several months duration. Mr. H came to this town from Cayuga, Co. N. Y., where was was born sixty-two years ago; he settled upon his present farm in 1843 and has ever since lived there with the exception of three years spent in the gold mines of California. He leaves a family of five groun up children and one adopted daughter who is now living with her foster mother in Rome, Jefferson Co., where Mr. Higbee has been quite well known for the past 89 years. He has ever borne a good reputation and was esteemed as a valuable citizen and an honest man; he has held several offices of trust and responsiblity, and we have yet to hear the first world of distrust or inability to perfomr any duty which fell to him. Before his death he expressed a desire to be buried int he Oak Hill Cemetery which was concurred with the remains were followed to their last resting place by a large number of friends and neighbors who deeply sympathize with the sorrowing family.
