FatherJohn Bricker b. 1753, d. 23 Oct 1818

ChartsJohn Bricker's Descendant Chart
Henry Bricker was born on 22 December 1779 in Pine Creek, Frederick County, Maryland.1,2,3 He was the son of John Bricker and Nancy Boyer. In the 1790 census in Frederick County, Maryland, Henry Bricker is assumed to be enumerated with John Bricker.4 In the 1800 census in Westminster District, Frederick County, Maryland, Henry Bricker is assumed to be enumerated with John Bricker.5

Henry Bricker married Eva Worman, daughter of Jacob Worman, circa 1804 in Maryland.6,7 In 1804, Henry was working as a blacksmith and farming. In connection with the farm work, he dealt with horses, taking droves of them through the country to Balitmore. He would follow driving a six-horse team to Baltimore and back, taking loads of products from the county and return laden with merchandise..8,9 In 1804, Henry and Eva moved to Little Beaver, Pennsylvania. Shortly after their marraige, they moved. Henry worked at his trade of blacksmithing for the fall and and winter, but then moved again.10 In 1805, Henry and Eva moved to Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. They were among the earliest settlers of a wilderness section, where the nearest neighbor was six miles away. Henry's parents moved to Columbiana County also about three years after Henry and Eva.

According to Columbiana County Chapter Genealogical Society; Centre Township (Range 3, township 14) is hilly and the northern part of the township is more fertile than the southern. The inhabitants were principally from Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland, and the religions are mainly Presbyterian and German Lutheran. In 1803, the population was 543.10

In 1805 their daughter, Lydia Bricker, was born in Ohio.11 On 12 December 1807 their son, Conrad Bricker, was born in Ohio.12

Henry Bricker moved with John Bricker in 1808 to Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio; John and Nancy Bricker moved with their family. It appears that their son, Henry and his wife Eva, moved a few years before them. It also is unknown, if their daughter, Sally, who married John Bender, moved with them or stayed in Maryland.13 In 1809 their daughter, Catharine Bricker, was born in Ohio.14,15 Henry Bricker has not been found on the census of 1810. The census for Columbiana County, Ohio are not available, they were burned years ago. On 23 August 1810 their son, John F. Bricker, was born in Columbiana County, Ohio.16,17,18 On 31 May their daughter, Nancy Bricker, was born. The year she was born in not known. She was probably named after Henry's mother.19 On 13 January 1813 their son, Henry Bricker, was born.20,21,22 On 14 May 1815 their daughter, Eve Bricker, was born.23,24 Henry Bricker was shown on the 1816 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 3-14, Section 4, NW 160 acres and SE 160.25 acres.25 He was shown on the 1817 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 3-14, Section 4, NW 160 acres and SE 160.25 acres.25 On 31 May 1817 their daughter, Anna Bricker, was born.26 Henry Bricker was shown on the 1818 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 3-14, Section 4, NW 160 acres and SE 160.25 acres.25 He survived the death of his father, John Bricker, who died on 23 October 1818 in Columbiana County, Ohio. Henry Bricker was shown on the 1819 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 3-14, Section 4, NW 160 acres and SE 160.25 acres.25 He was shown on the 1820 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. 3-14, Section 4,320 arcres. His NW 160, SE 160.25 was combined.25 He sold property in 1820 to [purchased] descripted as 100 acres, 3-15, Sec 34, Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. Henry Bricker purchased from John Goucher and Nancy, his wife, land that was previous owned by the late, John Bricker. This seems to imply that Nancy (Bricker) Goucher and her brother, Henry, split the land that their father owned. There were other silbings living at this time also, but it doesn't appear that they received any of this land or perhaps the transactions were not recorded. Their daughter, Magdalena Bricker, was born, but the date is unknown; It is assumed that she is one of the females listed in the 1830 census as between the age of 5 and 9 years old.27,28 Henry Bricker was shown on the 1820 tax list in Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 200 acres, 3-15, Sec 34, NW. His father, John, had paid this tax in previous years.25

Henry Bricker, shown as Henry Bricker, was listed as the head of a family on the 1820 census Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. It is assumed that Henry is one of the males between the ages of 26 and 45. One foreigner that is not naturalized is listed in this household and it is assume that he is the other male between the ages of 26 and 45. Also living in this household is another femaile under 10, which could be Nancy or Magdalena. Both didn't survive into adulthood and their birth and death dates are unknown. I assume it is Nancy and that Magdalena was born after 1820. Based on ages, it is possible that the following were also living in the household, Henry Bricker, a free white male, under 10 years old, John F. Bricker and Conrad Bricker, free white males, age 10 to 16 years old, Anna Bricker, Eve Bricker and Nancy Bricker, free white females, under 10 years old, Lydia Bricker and Catharine Bricker, free white females, age 10 to 16 years old, Eva Worman, a free white female, age 45 years or older.29 Henry Bricker was shown on the 1821 tax list in Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. 3-15, Sec 34, NW, 200 acres. In 1819, John Bricker, was shown as paying taxes on this land. It is believe that John, was Henry's father, who passed away in 1818.25 He was shown on the tax list from 1822 to 1830 in Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid taxes on the following land, 3-15, Sec 34, NW, 200 acres.30 He was shown on the tax list from 1822 to 1830 in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 3-14, Section 4, 320 arcres.25 He was shown on the tax list from 1824 to 1829 in Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid taxes on four acres, 3-15, Section 11. The handwriting in the tax records, is hard to read at times. In 1825, the entry appeared to note NE and farmer, but in 1826, 1827, and 1829, SW was indicated. In later years, SW continued to be noted, and tannery was also noted.30 Henry Bricker purchased from William Betz and Barbara, 4 acres, 3-15, Section 11 in Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio.

He survived the death of his mother, Nancy Boyer, who died on 15 March 1828. Henry Bricker was shown on the 1830 tax list in Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid taxes on four acres, 3-15, Section 11 and 5 acres, 3-15, Section 14. This was the first time the 5 acres on Section 14 was found. In later years, it is indicated as a distillery. Section 14 and Section 11 are next to each other in Salem Township.30

In the 1830 census at Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio, Henry Bricker, shown as Henry Bricker, was listed as a head of a family. He is between 50 and 60 years old and is living near Nathan Hahn, his son-in-law, Conrad Bricker and David Bricker. Also living in this household is one unknown male and one unknown female, between 5 and 10. It is assumed that the female is Magdalena Bricker. Her birth and death dates are unknown. Based on ages, it is possible that the following were also living in the household, John F. Bricker and Henry Bricker, males, age 15 to 20 years old, Magdalena Bricker, a female age 5 to 10 years of age, Anna Bricker, a female age 10 to 15 years old, Eve Bricker, a female age 15 to 20 years old, Eva Worman, a female age 50 to 60 years old.28

Henry Bricker sold property in 1830 to [purchased] descripted as Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. Henry and his wife, Eva were listed as Grantors. The property was described as 3-14, Section 4, N 1/2 of SE 1/4, 74.9 acres. He sold property in 1830 to [purchased] descripted as Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. Henry and his wife, Eva were listed as Grantors. Henry signed his own name, Eva did not. The property was described as 3-14, Section 4, SSE 1/4, 84.4 acres. He was shown on the 1831 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid property tax on land 3-14, Section 4, 160 acres. He also paid $120 tax for three horse, and $40 tax on one five cattle.25 He was shown on the tax list from 1831 to 1838 in Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid taxes on four acres, 3-15, Section 11 SW and five acres, 3-14, Section 14 NE. The four acres appear to be a tannery and the five acres a distillery.30 He was shown on the tax list from 1831 to 1838 in Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 200 acres, 3-15, Sec 34, NW.30 He was shown on the tax list from 1832 to 1838 in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid property tax on 160 acres, 3-14, Section 4.25 Henry Bricker purchased from Holland Green 60 acres of land, 3-14, Section 5, NE and SE 1/4. He was shown on the 1837 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 60 acres, 3-14, Section 5, E.25 He sold property in 1837 to [purchased] descripted as Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. It is assume that the John Bricker that purchased this 100 acres, NW and NE 1/4, was Henry Bricker's, son. This land appears to be the land Henry purchased in 1836.Similar land was sold from Henry to his son, John in 1845. This son, named his son, born this year, 1837, Henry, perhaps after his Dad. He was shown on the 1838 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 60 acres, 3-14, Section 5, E. Tax records in 1838, is for land owned in 1837. Henry sold this land in 1837.25 He survived the death of his wife, Eva Worman, who died on 27 March 1839 in Columbiana County, Ohio.

Henry Bricker's second wife was Lethe. They married between 1840 and 1845.1,31,32

Henry Bricker, shown as Henry Bricker, was listed as a head of a family on the 1840 census Centre Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He is between 60 and 70 and living next to Jno Bricker (assumed to be his son, John F.) and Jacob Worman. It is unknown who the female between 30 and 40 years old is.33

David Bricker, brother of Henry Bricker married to Eva, is appointed Henry's sole executor. In the census of 20 September 1850 at Centre Township, Columbiana County, Ohio, Henry Bricker, shown as Henry Bricker, is listed as the head of a household which includes the following household member; Lucy Bricker. Henry Bricker is 70 years old and was born in Maryland.1

Henry Bricker died on 9 March 1852 in Ohio at age 72. He was a Democrat and a devouted member of the German Reformed Church.31,3 He is buried in the St Jacob's Cemetery located in Lisbon, Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio.3
