     Denison Hughes was born on 30 October 1800 in Onondaga County, New York.4,5 He was the son of Samuel Hughes and Betsey Whedon.3 In the 1800 census in New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut, Denison Hughes is assumed to be enumerated with Samuel Hughes.6 Circa 1800, Denison Hughes moved with his parents to Camillus, Onondaga County, New York.7 In the 1810 census in Onondaga County, New York, Denison Hughes is assumed to be enumerated with Samuel Hughes.8 In 1818, Denison Hughes moved with his parents to Jennings County, Indiana.7 In the 1820 census in Jennings County, Indiana, Denison Hughes is assumed to be enumerated with Samuel Hughes.9

     Denison Hughes married Hannah Barnes on 16 September 1820 in Jennings County, Indiana.1,2,10 Their first child, Mary Ann, was born on 22 March 1822 in Ohio.1 On 21 February 1824 their daughter, Eliza Jane Hughes, was born.1 Their third child, Andrew Jackson, was born on 8 November 1827.11 Their fourth child, Lizetta Perudela, was born on 1 May 1830 in Defiance Township, Defiance County, Ohio.12

     In the 1830 census at Paulding County, Ohio, Denison Hughes was listed as a head of a family. It is assumed that he is the male shown as between 20 and 30 years old. This household is living near Henry Hughes, Denison's brother. Based on ages, it is possible that the following were also living in the household, Andrew Jackson Hughes, a male under 5 years old, Lizetta Perudela Hughes, a female under 5 years old, Mary Ann Hughes and Eliza Jane Hughes, females age 5 to 10 years of age, Hannah Barnes, a female age 20 to 30 years old.13 Their fifth child, Robert Barnes, was born on 2 December 1831 in Defiance County, Ohio.14,10,15 Their sixth child, William S., was born on 8 May 1834.1 Their seventh child, Denison Samuel, was born on 12 October 1836 in Paulding County, Ohio.16 Their eighth child, Jasper Newton, was born on 28 March 1839 in Paulding County, Ohio.17,18,5

     Denison Hughes, shown as Denison Hughs, was listed as a head of a family on the 1840 census Paulding County, Ohio. He is between 30 and 40 years old and living near Henry Hughs and Montroville Hughs. Based on ages, it is possible that the following were also in this household, Denison Samuel Hughes and Jasper Newton Hughes, males under 5 years old, Robert Barnes Hughes and William S. His real estate is valued at $6500 and he is living near Henry Hughes, age 47.17
     Denison Hughes died on 11 June 1874 at Defiance Township, Defiance County, Ohio, at age 73. He was medium size and had black eyes.1,5,22 He was survived by his wife, Hannah and many of his children.1 He is buried in the Forder Cemetery located in Paulding County, Ohio.23

     Robert Barnes Hughes was born on 2 December 1831 in Defiance County, Ohio.4,2,5 He was the son of Denison Hughes and Hannah Barnes.1,2,3 In the 1840 census in Paulding County, Ohio, Robert Barnes Hughes is assumed to be enumerated with Denison Hughes.6 In the census of 19 August 1850 in Crane Township, Paulding County, Ohio, Robert appears in the household of Denison Hughes as Robert Hughes. He is 18 years old, a laborer, and was born in Ohio. He attended school this year.7

     Robert Barnes Hughes married Martha Hazlett on 24 September 1857 in Crane Township, Paulding County, Ohio.8 They had nine children, all born in Paulding County, Ohio: Fancis Clayton; June 1858, Leslie Merton; 25 October 1859, Victor Clinton; 1 July 1862, Eva Estelle; 2 January 1867, Cora Anna; 25 October 1868, Ernest R; August 1871, Zoe (daughter, twi to Ziba); 27 August 1874, Ziba (son, twin) 27 August 1874 and Hanna T; May 11, 1878.9,10 During the Civil War, Robert Barnes Hughes signed up with the 14th Reginment Ohio Volunteer Infantry on 16 December 1863. He was in the battle at Jonesville, Georgia and marched across the country with General Sherman.11,2
     Robert Barnes Hughes was released from active military duty on 11 July 1865 at Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky.2

     Robert Barnes Hughes died in 1922.5 He is buried in the Forder Cemetery located in Paulding County, Ohio.5

     Denison Samuel Hughes was born on 12 October 1836 in Paulding County, Ohio.3 He was the son of Denison Hughes and Hannah Barnes.2 In the 1840 census in Paulding County, Ohio, Denison Samuel Hughes is assumed to be enumerated with Denison Hughes.4 In the census of 19 August 1850 in Crane Township, Paulding County, Ohio, Denison appears in the household of Denison Hughes as Denison Hughes. He is 15 years old and was born in Ohio. He attended school this year.1 In 1858, Denison moved to Bedford, Calhoun County, Michigan. Here he taught school during the winters and worked on his father's farm during the summers until April 1861, when, upon the breaking out of the rebelion, he enlisted.3 During the Civil War, Denison Samuel Hughes signed up with the Fourteenth Ohio Volunteers, Company G in April 1861 at Ohio. He was in the battle of Carrick Ford, West Virginia, on Cheat River. The Reginment was discharged at the end of four months by expiration of enlistment. In 1862 he raised men and formed Compnay I, One Hundreth Ohio Volunteers, of which he was First Lieutenant, and in November, 1863, was made Captain. The regiment went to Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia, and was in General Sherman's Atlanta campaign.3

      After 1865, Denison was engaged in mercantile business with W. N. Snook in Antwerp, Paulding County, Ohio, Later he engaged in the lumber buiness, and finally in farming. He was also once the village treasurer.3

     Denison Samuel Hughes married Laurietta N. Snook on 28 November 1866.2 They had four children, all born in Antwerp: Orley John; born 13 December 1867 and died 11 October 1868 from cholera infantum, Una Belle; 22 December 1868, Martha Dell; 25 August 1871, and Katie Arline; 4 February 1874.2

     Andre Leonard Hughes was born on 8 September 1828 in Paulding County, Ohio.2 He was the son of Henry Hughes and Nancy Thomas.2 In the 1830 census in Paulding County, Ohio, Andre Leonard Hughes is assumed to be enumerated with Henry Hughes.3 In the 1840 census in Paulding County, Ohio, Andre Leonard Hughes is assumed to be enumerated with Henry Hughes.4 In the census of 19 August 1850 in Crane Township, Paulding County, Ohio, Andre appears in the household of Henry Hughes as Leonard Hughes. He is 21 years old, a farmer, and was born in Ohio. His real estate is valued at $80.5

     Andre Leonard Hughes married first Elizabeth Masters on 11 October 1852.2 In the census of 13 July 1860 in Crane Township, Paudling County, Ohio, Andre appears in the household of Andrew J. Champion as Andre L. Champion. He is 30 years old and was born in Ohio. Also living in this household is Albert, his son along with his mother. His wife is not shown and Leonard remarries in 1863, therefore it is assumed that she has died.6 During the Civil War, Andre Leonard Hughes signed up with the Fourteenth Ohio reginment in 1861 at Ohio. He served as an orderly until March 1, 1865.2

     Andre Leonard Hughes's second wife was Savannah Read. They married circa 1863.2 They had seven children: Cynthia; 25 November 1864, Duane; 27 November 1865, Nancy Ann; 23 February 1867, Horton; 26 July 1869, Lawrence; 15 March 1870, George Leslie; 23 October 1871, Margaret A; born 10 August 1873 and died 25 August 1874.2 After March 1865, Andre was working as a Justice of the Peace for three years. He also held other local offices..2 In the census of 17 August 1870 in Crane Township, Paulding County, Ohio, Andre Leonard Hughes, shown as A. L. Hughes, is listed as the head of household which included the following household members; Savannah Hughes, Cintha Hughes, Albert Hughes, Duane Hughes, Nancy A. Hughes and Horton Hughes. He is 41 years old, born in Ohio and working as a farmer. His real estate is valued at $1000 and his personal estate at $250.7
